Těm z vás kteří se dostávají do styku s velmi hovorovou angličtinou (dnes asi nejčastěji přes počítačové hry nebo filmy) budou určitě povědomé tvary jako gotta, gonna, či wanna. vysvětlení je u většiny z nich prosté

wanna je want to a gonna je going to (tedy budoucí čas). zábavný je příběh slova gotta (tak jak si jej představuju já). gotta je zkrácená forma got to, což je hovorové zkrácení have got to, což je alternativa have to, neboli must. gotta rovná se must. to dá rozum.

Gotta run. I’m meeting someone in five minutes.
I have to run (have got to run). I’m meeting someone in five minutes.

každopádně mějte na paměti, že se jedná o nespisovné tvary které vám třeba při přijímacím řízení na vysokou školu příliš nepomohou (pokud něco, tak spíše uškodí), a nedoporučuju je používat pokud nevládnete dokonalou angličtinou. nicméně je dobré vědět co znamenají a jak se používají


v arzenálu nespisovné angličtiny najdeme kromě těchto skvostů i dvojité i trojité zápory:

apostrofy ( ‘ ) na konci slova končícího na ing tvar namísto g (goin‘),

I’m tellin’ ya, that guy’s gonna kick yer ass.
I am telling you, that man is going to kick your ass.

of proměňující se v a na konci předcházejícího slova (kinda namísto kind of, outta namísto out of)

Whaddya think she’ll do? – Dunno. — That ain’t no kinda answer. – Just leave ‘er alone, okay?
What do you think she will do? – I don’t know. – That is not an answer. – Just leave her alone, will you?

mnohovýznamové ain’t (tohle slovo kdyby spisovná angličtina vzala za své, polovina učitelů angličtiny může vyrazit na pracák)

Ain’t she sweet? — Forget it, you ain’t getting laid. I ain’t responsible for her but you seem pretty brutish for such a gentle girl. – Hell, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
Isn’t she sweet? You aren’t getting laid. I’m not responsible for her. You haven’t seen anything yet.

mizící h na začátku zájmen nahrazené taktéž apostrofem (hit ‘im), ale frekventovaný je především zkrácený tvar ‘em zastupující them.

Tell ‘im I’m quittin’. Why? ‘Cos I never been given no money by nobody.
Tell him that I am quitting. Why? Because I have never been given any money by anybody.

We’re gonna kick ‘em all outta here, right?
We are going to kick them all out of here, aren’t we?

v předcházejících větách jste narazili i na další záhadná slova jako dunno (don’t know), whaddaya (what do you), whatcha (what are you), lemmea gimme (let me a give me), či yer (your). už méně často narazíte na tvary hafta (have to) a usta (used to).

You’re gonna hafta learn to deal with it, y’know. D’you understand?
You are going to have to learn to deal with it, you know. Do you understand?

i v psaném projevu rodilých mluvčích narazíte na zjednodušené (a nesprávné) tvary některých slov. nečtou, neví.

Every nite these days, I turn off the lite and watch the NHL hilites.
Every night these days, I turn off the light and watch the NHL highlights.

a v hovorové angličtině se občas vypouští zájmena, zvláště tehdy pokud by se totéž zájmeno použilo několikrát za sebou.

So did you go to the gig? – Sure I did. Went there, listened to the music, had a beer, talked to people, got drunk. Y’know, the usual stuff.

v otázkách se zase občas vynechávají pomocná slovesa, případně u ustálených krátkých dotazů vše kromě nejpodstatnějšího slova

Hey, you wanna join me and my wife for a cup of coffee later today?
Hello Martha. Going to the market?
I broke up with that garbage man, dad. Happy now?
We talked about this last night. Remember?
That’s not how you put the battery in. You do it like this. See?

poučení samozřejmě nezní: pohoda, odteď kašlu na zájmena a pomocná slovesa, občas vypustím nějaké to ain’t a všechno bude cool. nevím, jak poučení zní, takhle ale ne

…a na závěr si dáme rant (přistěhovalce) Vočka ze Simpsonových, který (mizernou angličtinou plnou chyb) nadává na zatracené nové přistěhovalce, kteří se ani pořádně nenaučí anglicky, ale chtějí mít všechny výhody amerického životního stylu
